From April 2026, the National Living Wage for workers aged 21 and over is £12.71 per hour. Working a standard 40-hour week, that produces a gross annual salary of £26,437. After the 2026/27 personal allowance (£12,570), income tax of £2,773 and employee National Insurance of £1,109 are deducted, leaving a take-home pay of £22,555 per year — or £1,880 per month.
Younger workers receive different rates. An 18–20 year old on £10.85/hr takes home £1,647/month. A worker under 18 or in their first apprenticeship year on £8.00/hr takes home £1,292/month. All figures assume a standard tax code and no pension contributions or student loan repayments.
Part-time workers earning below the personal allowance of £12,570 pay no income tax at all.
